Awakened · Veiled · Waiting
The world of Qualin is imbued with vibrant magic, deep-seated community, and a sense of awe that calls to all who seek adventure. Its vast and untamed landscapes are filled with secrets and stories, waiting to be discovered by those bold enough to explore their depths. Qualin stands as a land poised on the edge of revelation, inviting explorers to unveil its mysteries and pursue enlightenment.
Once, Qualin was alive with bustling civilizations — cities thrived, libraries flourished, and knowledge was cherished. Then a cataclysm of unknown origin swept across the land, erasing all sentient life in a single fateful event. The once-lively cities became silent and empty; great repositories of wisdom fell into neglect and decay. Compounding this tragedy, a strange shroud formed above the world — invisible from below, opaque from above — rendering easy discovery of the land impossible.
In the aftermath of this transformative event, new sentient life emerged. Enlightened animals, awakened to consciousness, rose to reclaim the world. Yet between the awakening and the rediscovery of the abandoned cities, maps, books, and ancient knowledge had already crumbled away. What remains is a nascent civilization — eager, driven by a thirst for exploration, striving to re-catalogue Qualin and unearth the histories long buried beneath its ruins.
"The Awakening. The Day of Voices. The Veilbreak. By any name, all agree it marked a profound turning point in Qualin's history."
On the day remembered as The Awakening, another mysterious phenomenon manifested in Qualin — the creation of the Faranel. No scholar, sage, or explorer can truly say what the Faranel is, but all agree that it marks a tear in reality itself. Standing as a rift upon the land, the Faranel is surrounded by an ever-present purple fog, concealing its secrets from unwary eyes. Within this fog lies a single, shifting opening that beckons with both wonder and caution.
Over time, brave souls established a beachhead within the fog. A rail line now runs from the outside world to a lone city built at the edge of the unknown — the launching point for the exploration and exploitation of the strange new realm revealed by the rift.
The Faranel's influence extends far beyond the ground. An invisible fog hangs high in the sky, undetectable from below. For those who take to the air, this unseen haze forms an impenetrable shroud of violet, ensuring that flight cannot grant passage or reveal the secrets hidden in the land. Treks across the terrain remain the only way to uncover what lies in Qualin.
Time in Qualin is not measured by the simple march of days, but by the dance of its two mighty suns — Blazelight and Wildbloom.
The golden, brilliant sun — source of heat, power, and tradition. Sacred to Solena, goddess of life and radiant hope.
The mystical, green sun — source of magical growth, fertility, and renewal. Sacred to Thalira, goddess of wild nature and untamed cycles.
Their interplay divides the year into eight distinct Radiants, each with its own light, character, and meaning. The Radiant Cycle is the heartbeat of the world, shaping every aspect of life, magic, and tradition.
The continent is broken into distinct lands, each a chapter unto itself. Some are ruled by ancient cities reclaimed by new peoples; others remain wild, dangerous, and barely mapped.
Verdant lands and old roads where the new civilizations first took root.
Wild forests and coastal frontiers crowned by the spires of Thalspire.
The Faranel rift dominates this region — a land of mist, rail, and risk.
Salt, sand, and the strange ruins of a sun-bleached past.
A spine of frozen peaks dividing the world — home to hardy folk and old gods.
A great encircling road and the cities upon it — the lifeline of the new age.
A great city of learning and stonework standing watch over the northwest, its university among the few institutions to survive the Veilbreak with anything resembling continuity.
A frontier holding pressed up against the wilds, named for being the final waypoint where the lanterns still burn through the dark.
An ancient living wonder whose branches glow with their own soft fire — sacred, contested, and a beacon for all who travel within sight of it.
Beyond Qualin lies a wider cosmos — the elemental planes of fire, water, earth, and air; the realms of the fey and the shadow; and stranger places still where the boundaries of thought and matter loosen. Magic in Qualin draws from these planes, and some artifacts and creatures find their way through the veil between them.
Gather your dice. Make your character. Step into a land where every journey is a chapter, every ruin holds a secret, and every horizon hides another wonder.
